The International Institute for Primary Health Care - Ethiopia (IPHC-E) and its partners established a central content discovery platform, ‘Ethiopian Central Discovery System’ to promote the exchange of knowledge and to enhance its utility in Ethiopia. The platform is a collaborative knowledge management system and harvests content from libraries and knowledge centers of ECDS partner organizations. These organizations are leading Universities as well as governmental and non-governmental health organizations. The system promotes the discovery and accessibility of resources for academics, researchers, policymakers, health professionals, and the public on an intuitive and user-friendly platform.

The objectives are:

  • provide state-of-the-art search and navigation facilities from a single location
  • empower users by providing an expanded source of knowledge and information on Ethiopia by consolidating publications from local academic and health institutions as well as external contents that they have subscribed to
  • promote knowledge produced by Ethiopians through identifying and indexing content for easy searching, referencing and usage at local and global levels
  • serve as stepping stone in developing databases of Ethiopian local content and knowledge for its archival over the long term

This joint initiative is supported by grants from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The platform is hosted by IPHC-E.
